IND Midfield Terminal complex earns prestigious LEED® green building certification

In November, IND became the first airport in North America to win LEED certification for an entire terminal campus. At 1.2 million square feet, the terminal is among the largest projects to ever garner LEED certification. In winning the recognition, the terminal project was recognized for an exemplary design in the areas of energy efficiency, recycling, indoor environmental quality, water efficiency, sustainable site development, and innovations.

CFO Marsha Stone honored in 2011 Women of Influence awards

 

Marsha Stone, CFO of the Indianapolis Airport Authority (IAA), was recognized during the Indianapolis Business Journal 2011 Women of Influence awards in November. The awards are presented to women of Central Indiana who have shown outstanding leadership in various fields.

IND passes twelfth consecutive annual FAA safety inspection with zero discrepancies

For an unprecedented twelfth straight year, IND passed its three-day annual Part 139 Airport Certification inspection by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) with no discrepancies. The Part 139 inspection is a comprehensive review process required for an airport to renew its operating certificate.

IAA, GE Energy, and Purdue University bring latest EV charging technology to parking garage

Electric vehicle (EV) drivers using IND have a convenient way to ensure a fully charged ride home thanks to the November installation of three new GE Energy EV charging stations in the airport parking garage.

The GE WattStationTM Wall Mount EV charging stations can be used at no cost to travelers who use the airport's valet parking services. By managing the GE EV charging stations through its valet service, the Indianapolis Airport Authority and Parking Solutions for Airports and Global Parking System Inc. can rotate charged cars, ensuring the service is available to any number of electric vehicles.

Google adds Indianapolis International Airport to indoor maps service


In November, Google Maps included IND in its popular online mapping service, giving visitors a new, easy way to orient themselves and see the many services and amenities the airport offers. Guests can access Google Maps from their Android devices and zoom into the IND terminal, concourses, and parking garage to view detailed floor plans. The dynamic map display includes precise location information for points of interest such as departure gates, shops, restaurants, restrooms, ATMs, and more.

  Indianapolis International Airport announces dynamic new electronic media art program 


In December, the IAA inaugurated an innovative LED video wall at IND that features video-based artworks and commercial advertising. With a debut well timed at the start of the busy holiday season and in advance of the Super Bowl, the new On Screen program, curated by the Indianapolis Museum of Art, presents two new projects annually. In its first year, the On Screen art program will feature the video Perm Press: The American Cycle (2011) by Indianapolis-based artist Artur Silva (see still photo from his exhibit below) followed by a project by New York-based Nina Katchadourian called Seat Assignment (2011).

Auntie Anne's Pretzels lands once again at IND

In December, the wait finally ended for airport passengers and employees craving soft pretzels at IND. Auntie Anne's, the world's largest international franchisor of hand-rolled soft pretzels, opened a location at Gate 10 on Concourse A. The new store arrived in response to countless requests from the traveling public who previously enjoyed Auntie Anne's at the old IND terminal. Auntie Anne's opens daily at 5 a.m.
